Based in the picturesque New Zealand City of Wanganui, Q-West Boat Builders Limited supply marine fabrication and engineering services to the pleasure craft, tourist operator and commercial fishing sectors.

THE CITY OF WANGANUI
Wanganui is situated on the West Coast of the North Island of New Zealand. The town is 2.5 hours from the capital city, Wellington. Wanganui has approximately 45,000 people and enjoys moderate year round weather.

The facilities at Q-West are purpose built for the construction of aluminium vessels. Over the years Q-West has developed and obtained specific fabrication equipment. The list below provides a general overview of Q-West's equipment:

 

- Three workshops capable of fabricating vessels of up to 40 metres
- 200 tonne capacity slipway
- Modern machine shop including brake press, pipe rolling equipment, guillotine, drills, lathes
- MIG welding (includng pulse technology), steel, stainless steel and aluminium alloys
- TIG welding of stainless steel and aluminium alloys
- 4 x 5 tonne overhead gantrys
- Test equipment for hydraulics, electronic, welding
- T.Q.M.
- Computer Aided Design capabilities

Tara has worked for Q-West for over two years as the Office Manager and has had 20 years experience in the accounting field. Tara is also experienced at setting up and running quality management and health & safety systems.

Jim is a qualified mechanic fitter, experienced production coordinator and marathon jet boat driver. Jims experience extends over 20 years in the marine industry.

Overview

Q-West is an aluminium boat builder with experience in a diverse range of vessels and applications. From high speed quad engined ferries to 6 knot tug boats, Q-West has developed and succeeded as one of New Zealands leading aluminium boat builders.

The systems at Q-West for project control ensure the vessels constructed achieve budget and are completed on time. We have pride in the fact that Q-West is one of the most consistent boat builders in New Zealand with regard to delivery.

Q-West construct craft from designs supplied by independent design companies. National and international design companies such as Teknicraft Design, Kasten Marine Design, and Craig Loomes Design (to name a few) have all worked closely with Q-West over the years and continue to do so.
