When the Port of Wellington took delivery from Q-West of their new pilot boat ‘Te Haa’, it replaced a vessel from the same builder 25 years earlier.
A 34m aluminium catamaran is the first of a two vessel repeat order for a New Zealand passenger ferry operator.
Kororā is the first of the two next generation fast ferries Q-West are contracted by Fullers Group to build.
Outwardly, this new vessel appears to be of very similar design to Te Kotuku, but her facilities are a major step up in two respects, she incorporates a fully covered upper outer deck and a new top open observation deck.
This catamaran could certainly be the way of the future – especially for ports such as Auckland which have a long transit to the pilot boarding ground.
